The European Union’s desire for well functioning railway system is continuously expressed in the EU Transport policy. Great number of policy papers, legislative acts proposed and adopted, as well as numerous speeches and presentations by decision makers on the EU and Member States level clearly reflect the need to develop full modal integration. Expectation that railways will find a way how to revitalise this sector is not a secret.
Importance of efficient railway system is also recognized across all the Danube macro-region.
Within the context of the implementation of the Danube Strategy to make at least a small contribution to more attractive and competitive railways, the EUSDR Priority Area 1b coordinators are organizing this Workshop.
The Workshop was held on Monday, 21 November 2016 from 13.00 to 17.30 and on Tuesday, 22 November 2016 from 9.30 to 12.00. It brought together prominent speakers and participants who are dedicated to contribute to improved railway infrastructure management and to providing services to rail customers.
The Workshop addressed the following topics:
Session I: The Rail Legislation – support or obstacle for attractiveness and competitiveness of railways?
Session II: What are challenges for railway passenger transport in the Danube region?
Session III: What are challenges for railway freight in the Danube region?
